PHD were appointed to undertake the planning, design and installation of a 49.7m protection scaffold within a live food production facility.
Project
The client tasked us with providing a weather protection structure to the live factory which also provided access to replace the existing roofing infrastructure.
The Works were carried out during an intensive period of 96 hours during both operational and shutdown times.
Various challenges were met by the Team, including working in and around live food production, live machinery, and complex logistical routes in and around the live factory.
Challenges
The challenges met by the Engineering Team was the installation of a 49.7m span of scaffold that not only met the requirements of the client, but also the necessary engineering calculations.
This was achieved by penetrating the existing roof structure and installing a waterproof barrier deck.
Due to the strict fire and dust control requirements within the factory, the deck was installed with a double composite board working deck, complete with fire rated monoflex. The deck was further fitted with an EPDM membrane which was fitted around the existing services at high level and the scaffold structure itself.
By using the EPDM system, it allowed for a universal installation that overcome the intricate challenges of the environment we faced. All this was undertaken safely, without incident whilst meeting the clients request of a unique scaffold structure that provided working platforms and weather protection in a challenging and live environment.
Results
This project exemplifies PHD’s expertise in delivering complex scaffolding solutions within live environments.
By employing innovative engineering techniques and meticulous planning, the team successfully navigated the challenges of working in a live food production facility.
The project was completed on time, within budget, and without any incidents, ensuring minimal disruption to the client’s operations.
The successful delivery of this weather protection scaffold not only met but exceeded the client’s expectations, reinforcing PHD’s reputation as a reliable and innovative engineering partner.
