Returning Citizen Scheme
PHD’s Returning Citizens Scheme supports workforce reintegration and upskilling for individuals who have served a custodial sentence for a past crime. The two-year scheme allows individuals who have a keen interest in the scaffolding industry to gain on-site training, industry-specific terminology, and knowledge.
This programme is designed to allow you to earn while you learn, with a focus on practical, real-world application of the skills you acquire. Upon completion, candidates will earn an NVQ Level 2 in Scaffolding and Accessing Operations and Rigging.
Programme Structure
Successful candidates will participate in a comprehensive 18–24-month training programme designed to provide a strong blend of practical experience and formal education.
This programme includes 11 weeks of specialised instruction, delivered in 10-day blocks at our training centre in the London Academy of Sustainable Construction (LASC), Waltham Forest with all expenses paid, which are scheduled biannually over the course of two years. During the scheme, you will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced tradesmen and shadow them.
The training is conducted in partnership with SIMIAN, one of the UK’s leading training organisations.
This partnership ensures that the training you receive is of the highest standard, equipping you with the essential skills and knowledge needed to excel in the industry. Successful completion awards an NVQ Level 2 in Scaffolding, Accessing Operations, and Rigging.
Additional Support
Through NASC, candidates are eligible for a professional mentor who will provide ongoing support throughout the programme. NASC is collaborating with various mentoring organisations and professionals to offer this support. These mentors focus on assisting new entrants in navigating the challenges they may experience with integration into society.
This may include support and guidance with mental health & wellbeing, liaison with the authorities, advice to employers, or anything that helps candidates retain their jobs. This ensures that each candidate has the resources and support needed to successfully transition back into society and thrive in their new career.
