Women in the Industry: Sofia’s Story

Published: Oct 31 2024

In this latest video from the ‘Women in the Industry’ campaign, we spotlight Sofia Angulatta, a driving force behind PHD’s brand awareness. From her early career as a sales assistant in a travel agency to marketing lead at PHD, Sofia’s journey has been one of passion, resilience, and growth.

From Sales to Marketing Lead

Sofia began in sales, but her talent for design and marketing was quickly recognised by the owner of the company, who offered her a role in the marketing department. Since then, she’s eagerly embraced the ever-changing world of marketing with enthusiasm.

WORDS OF ADVICE

When asked about any advice for women entering the industry, Sofia replied:

I think if you are a woman, wanting to become a scaffolder, I’d say go for it. You’ll have a great time – I have heard the work is hard but you’ll be treated as an equal. You’ll be expected to do the work just as the guys do it. There is no special treatment there. And I think it’s also gonna be very rewarding and you will meet some amazing people along the way

ADDRESSING GENDER DIVERSITY

Gender diversity is a crucial topic in every industry today. On how PHD approaches it, Sofia said:

I think PHD, is doing a great job of inclusivity. I am seeing a consistent increase in the number of women that are joining PHD, on a year-on-year basis. We have women in some really strong leadership roles and since I have been working for PHD, I have seen two women be scaffolders! I am really glad at PHD for being at the forefront of this.

Women in the Industry Campaign

Our campaign highlights the remarkable women at PHD and their journey in this industry. According to the Redrow PLC, although construction has long been a male-dominated industry, research shows that most of the male construction workers’ perceptions are shifting.

Today, 66% of young women are already working in, considering, or open to careers in construction – a 17% increase since 2023. (New research finds more women are entering the construction sector than ever before | Redrow PLC)

We hope our campaign will encourage more women to join the industry.
